What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable sterile gels used to plump the skin, giving it a fuller and firmer appearance. Don’t confuse dermal fillers with Botox…. although both procedures involve injections, Botox is most often injected around the forehead and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet) to stop muscle movement that results in wrinkles. It has nothing to do with the plumping, smoothing effect dermal fillers have.
Because they work in different manners, many clients choose to have both Botox and dermal fillers because the combination produces amazing results.
Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® are among the most popular fillers currently prescribed. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our skin, joints and eyes. It is a forerunner to collagen and a naturally effective humectant (retains water). These water retaining properties keeps the skin supple and hydrated, and gives it volume. Over time hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body. Hyaluronic acid used in dermal fillers such as Restylane® is formulated to decrease natural absorption, and lasts between 12 to 18 months.
Where Can Dermal Fillers Be Used?
Dermal fillers such as Restylane® , Emervel® and Juvederm® are used to revitalise your skin, smooth away wrinkles or to enhance your facial features, such as cheeks or lips to make you feel more youthful and confident . I prescribe dermal fillers for treatments including :
- Non-surgical nose-straightening / nose-job
- To re-define the jawline
- Fuller cheeks / volumisation
- To smooth and fill vertical lip lines
- To smooth and fill nasolabial folds
- Liquid face-lifts
Dermal Filler Treatment
Dermal filler treatments are non-surgical, with minimal downtime. The results are natural and long-lasting (between 12 and 18 months for Restylane) but not permanent. You can read more about Restylane® here. Prior to a Dermal filler treatment, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to ensure that any discomfort is minimal. The dermal filler is then injected with a very tiny needle under the surface of the skin. After the treatment, the area treated may be slightly red and swollen. Normal activities can be resumed straight afterwards, or you can drive home / return to work immediately after the treatment.
Dermal filler pricing starts from £300 . Please contact me to find out more about dermal fillers / book a no-obligation consultaion .
