What Is Botox?
Botox is actually the trade name for a Botulinum Toxin medical treatment – injected into the skin and known to inhibit muscle movement which prevents wrinkles from developing or worsening. Botox is ideally suited for treating dynamic facial lines (lines that occur due to facial muscular activity). It will not improve wrinkles and lines resulting from sun-damage and aging – Dermal fillers are best suited for these type of facial lines.
I often advise / prescribe a combination of Botox and dermal fillers to achieve optimum results. Botox is a temporary treatment, with results lasting from three to six months. However, with repeated treatments the effects can last even longer. Botox can temporarily rejuvenate your appearance without the need for surgery and works by relaxing the very muscles that cause facial lines so that :
- Skin appears smoother.
- Facial lines diminish dramatically.
- Further wrinkles are prevented as the skin is not being constantly creased.
Botulinum Toxin / Botox wrinkle relaxation treatment does not require a sedative or a local anaesthetic. Tiny needles are used so any discomfort is minimal. A botox treatment at one of my clinics will take approximately 15 – 20 minutes, afterwards you can drive home or return to work straightaway..
Alternatively you can book a private consultation with me in the comfort of your own home. It will take approximately 3 – 4 days for the treatment to start taking effect, and 7 – 10 days for the full effect. Further to your treatment I will arrange a follow-up consultation / review 2 – 3 weeks later.
Is Botox Safe?
Yes! Botox has been used for over 20 years to treat facial wrinkles, hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms) , migraines and more… its safety and efficacy has been shown in many clinical trials. There have been no long-term side effects reported from the use of Botox.
